Mindfulness
There are various meanings of mindfulness across different frameworks and traditions.
In Buddhism, mindfulness can mean memory or the focusing of the mind. In other words, mindfulness involves remembering what we’re intending to do, remembering what matters, keeping in mind that what we’re doing aligns with our values. In this sense, mindfulness in Buddhism is similar to holding intention to what’s ethical.
This is quite different from how we use the term in post-modern contexts, where it often means to be mindful of the present moment, focusing on something such as the breath, etc.
