Work that Reconnects/Active Hope Facilitation

  • The Work that Reconnects (also known as Active Hope in other contexts) is a set of group practices developed by Joanna Macy and colleagues that helps people transform despair and hopelessness in the face of social and ecological crises into constructive, collaborative action.

It draws on teachings from systems thinking, deep ecology, Buddhism, and indigenous traditions. Through interactive practices, it helps build motivation, creativity, courage and solidarity for the transition to a life-sustaining society.

    • Hold spaces for expressing gratitude and grief as means to communal healing.

    • Rediscover your connection to life itself through guided practices unique to the Work that Reconnects.

    • Incorporate components of the Work into various settings and contexts.

    • It is an all-embracing (all faiths and cultures welcome), no-nonsense, down-to-earth practice.

    • The framework can be adapted to any context and setting. Let me understand your needs so that I can come up with something that works for you.

    • I may record sessions for my own learning and development as a facilitator. I may also share anonymised details with expert teachers of the Work who have worked with Joanna Macy to gather further insights. If you're not OK with that, just let me know. It's all good.

Sociocracy Training and Facilitation

  • Looking to create spaces that promote belonging, fairness AND effectiveness? Then look no further.

My approach involves integrating sociocracy with agile frameworks like Scrum as well as drawing insights from complementary frameworks, including Dragon Dreaming, Non-violent Communication and Theory U. With utmost consideration of the needs of the group in mind first.

Not sure what on earth is sociocracy? You can look it up on Google but I also explain it simply here.

    • Implement sociocracy in organisations.

    • Onboarding people to sociocracy.

    • Facilitate sociocratic meetings.

    • Like any organisational framework, implementing sociocracy effectively requires buy-in from everyone involved. Having said that, it doesn’t mean that it won’t work if there’s no buy-in from some people in the beginning. There are strategies we can work on to understand the situation.

    • A full-fledged sociocratic organisation would probably function well with 7 people and above. But that doesn’t mean we cannot adopt its practices with groups lesser than that.

    • I may record sessions for my own learning and development as a consultant. I may also share anonymised details with expert consultants to gather further insights. If you're not OK with that, just let me know. It's all good.

Philosophical Coaching

  • Stuck in life? Not sure what all of this means?

Philosophical coaching is great for helping you understand your own patterns of thinking, know yourself better and life a more "examined life".

I draw insights from philosophical traditions and psychotherapy to offer something that works for YOU.

Also available in Chinese and Hokkien.

    • Examine life problems.

    • Articulating what matters in your life.

    • Making difficult decisions.

    • Exploring life's biggest questions.

    • Figuring out personal beliefs.

    • Defining your personal life philosophy.

    • This is not performance coaching; I won't force you to do things. I’m here as a guide to help you live according to what matters to you. I will invite you to try some things but ultimately it's up to you to make changes in yourself.

    • Philosophical coaching seeks neither to diagnose nor treat mental illness, and philosophical coaches are not mental health professionals.

    • What you share in our sessions together will remain confidential, unless there is a present risk of harm to self or to others.

    • In certain circumstances, I may record sessions for my own learning and development as a coach. I may also share anonymised details with mentors and supervisors. If you're not OK with that, just let me know and it's all good.
